We were pleased to welcome Professor Donald Meek at the King's Arms Hotel, Melrose on 27th March. This evening was well attended and Donald captivated us with his enthusiastic presentation of the history of Calmac. He certainly stirred happy memories of days gone by for many in the audience. ... This ceilidh was a bit different to our usual nights in Newstead, as it was billed as "A Taste of Burns". A successful evening was enjoyed by everyone, and our thanks go to all who provided entertainment with a Burns theme, and to Ross who piped in the haggis. An excellent haggis, neeps and tatties supper was provided by the ladies on the committee and appreciated by all who attended. ... [more]

Dr Margaret Bennett entertained a large audience at The King's Arms Hotel, Melrose with a varied and interesting talk on Gaels in Newfoundland, which she illustrated both in pictures and song. She was accompanied by Monty, fresh from the Mod, who also entertained the company admirably with Gaelic songs and tunes on the accordion. ... [more]

Fiddler, Sarah Naylor, Gaelic singer, Maeve MacKinnon, accompanied by keyboard player Douglas Millar entertained a large crowd at Melrose on 28th September. Sarah's playing of "Sitting in the Stern of a Boat" was particularly moving, as was Maeve's singing of "The Pibroch." The Annual General Meeting was held in The King's Arms Hotel, Melrose on 30th April, 2007. There was an exceptionally good turnout of Members, who learned that Gaelic in the Borders had enjoyed a successful year on all counts. Our thanks go to Dr Michel Byrne for presenting an interesting and informative evening, which was enjoyed by all members who attended The King's Arms in Melrose. Fiddler Lauren MacColl, Young Folk Award Winner 2004/05, accompanied by Deirdre Graham and Katie MacKenzie, both Gaelic singers and clarsach players entertained us at The Wynd Theatre, Melrose on Thursday 28th September, 2006.
